2022 Is The Year of The Ginger

Every January, articles predict hair, makeup, and fashion trends that will dominate the next 12 months. For example, at the start of 2022, multiple reports were released that declared red hair as one of the up-and-coming trends for the year. Nevertheless, the predictions were accurate; over the last few months, there’s been an influx of celebrities and influencers ditching their natural hair color for various copper shades.  

One of the more famous examples of celebrities changing their mane this year was when Kendall Jenner debuted a rich golden-mahogany shade. But, of course, Jenner and the rest of her family are no strangers to drastic hair changes; her older sister, Kim Kardashian, is known for switching between her natural raven locks and a silvery, platinum blonde.  

Sydney Sweeney is another celeb who dipped their toe into the ginger pool this year. The Euphoria actress dyed her signature golden blonde hair to an orangey-red tone. Even though her copper hair didn’t last long, it was an exciting change that gave her a more rock and roll vibe.

Zendaya broke the internet earlier this year when she debuted a new dark red hairdo. The triple-threat usually sports her long, natural dark brown hair, so her fans went wild when she posted a mirror selfie with red shoulder-length hair. While the new look was a departure from her signature dark hair, that wasn’t the actress’ first time going red. For the Spiderman: Far From Home premiere in 2019, Zendaya colored her hair to a gorgeous red shade to pay homage to her character, Mary Jane Watson, in the Spiderman comics. 

Lastly, Musical artist SZA is known for sporting various orangey-red and fire hydrant red shades, but this year she decided to switch it up and go with a red hue with undertones of pink. She posted a selfie debuting the new color and completed the look with gorgeous face-framing layers. The singer often experiments with her hair, so she’ll probably be back in the ginger club in no time.
